Combo 85.
Combo 85 comes from pages 25-28 of the October 1996 issue of Chevy High Performance.
Combo 85 uses a 357 cu. in. engine from Powerhouse. Rebuilt GM heads and an aggressive Elgin cam help to produce 360 HP and 394 ft-lbs of torque.

Combo 86 comes from page 141 of the October 1996 issue of Chevy High Performance.
This combo is a giveaway engine from Summit. The Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads and moderate camshaft produce 363 HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque.

Combo 87.
Combo 87 comes from pages 82-89 of the September 1998 issue of Super Chevy.
A 355 from the 70's is freshened by Trick Flow heads, a Lunati roller cam, and a 750 Holley to make 147 extra HP. The roller cam has a little more lift than the rest of the combos on this site, with 0.661 in. of valve lift. Although very much on the big side, this combination can prove to be a very streetable engine.

Combo 88.
Combos 88-91 come from pages 42-46 of the March 2000 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. A GM ZZ4 crate engine is tested with the crate L98 aluminum Corvette heads, L31 iron Vortec heads, and GM "Fast Burn" aluminum heads. Two intakes and two camshafts are used in the four combinations.
Combo 88 is the ZZ4 crate motor in shipped form with the Corvette heads. With all of the new GM components and a Demon 750 carb, this combination makes 356 HP and 408 ft-lbs of torque.

Combo 89.
Combo 89 replaces the L98 heads with L31 Vortec heads. These heads require a Vortec-compatible intake manifold, and an Edelbrock Super Victor Vortec single-plane is used with this combination. Apparently, this Edelbrock intake is similar to a single-plane GM intake, the Eliminator, with PN 12496822. This head and intake swap produces 20 more HP and about 380 ft-lbs of torque.

Combo 90.
Combo 90 uses GM Fast Burn heads and a GM "hot cam," with more lift. The Fast Burn heads usually cost about twice the price of the Vortecs, and this combo produces 42 more HP and about 30-40 more ft-lbs of torque.

Combo 91.
Combo 91 is exactly like Combo 90, except a single-plane intake is used. Since the Fast Burn heads have holes drilled for both standard, angled intake bolts and Vortec-style intake bolts, the Edelbrock Super Victor Vortec intake could be used. This change produces 14 more HP and 6 more ft-lbs.
